Symbols of the Prague municipal units

A Few Words by Way of Introduction

This issue of the Vexillological Lexicon deals flags of the Prague municipal units. The municipal units (or city quarters in the past) have been authorized to use their own flag since Oct 9, 1990 when the Capital City of Prague Act was passed by the Czech National Council (i.e. then Czech Parliament).

This publication consists of two parts - the first one brings information on an advancement of the territory and administrative division of Prague. It is completed with a city map showing the present division of Prague into city quarters and municipal units. Moreover, flags of municipal units are presented, so circumstances of their adoption are added, too. A graphic survey brings data of the particular flags´ adoption.

The second part comprises of all adopted flags of the Prague municipal units, their official vocal description (completed with some explanation, if necessary), and drawing of their appearance. The enclosed charts show a colour rendition of all said flags of the Prague municipal units (except of that of Praha-Suchdol that has still adopted the arms only). All necessary data of the flags´adoption, the relevant resolution of the Parliamentary Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Physical Training Committee, and decree issued by the Speaker of the House of Deputies are given in the enclosure, too.
